On July 31, 2024, Joseph F. Sullivan of Sullivan & Brill, LLP obtained a $650,000 settlement on behalf of a 59 year old construction worker who injured his right shoulder when a car pulled out of a parking lot in front of him, causing him to slam on the brakes and hit the front driver's side of the other vehicle. The client was a union drywall and spackler. The torn rotator cuff that the client sustained in the car crash required surgical repair two months after the accident. The client was unable to return to work after the crash.
The car insurance company denied any responsibility for the crash saying that Sullivan & Brill's client was speeding and that was the cause of the crash. It further claimed that the client was not injured in the car crash and that any damage to his rotator cuff was the result of 20 year of construction work, requiring him to lift heavy objects over his head. After a lengthy litigation process in Bronx County, New York, the case received a trial date in September of 2024. Leading up to the trial, the Sullivan Brill team hired an economist who projected that the client sustained a loss of earnings and union benefits that amounted to $569,639.
