The Scotts Corners area became known as "Basket Town" due to its specialization in crafting baskets, especially for the thriving oyster industry along Long Island Sound.
The 19th century saw significant transitions as small-scale farming and craftsmanship gave way to industrialization elsewhere. Pound Ridge’s population dipped by the early 20th century, reaching a low of 515 in 1920, but the town remained known for its natural landscape and quiet atmosphere.
