Illegal U-turn struck a pedestrian in a Bronx crosswalk
Our client was crossing Bailey Avenue in a crosswalk in the Bronx when a driver traveling eastbound made an illegal U-turn and struck her.
She sustained an acute impacted fracture of the left humeral neck, a depressed comminuted lateral tibial plateau fracture of the left knee with hemarthrosis and a moderate joint effusion, and a nondisplaced radial neck fracture of the left elbow. Surgery on the shoulder was deferred because operative management would still have required a prolonged non-weight-bearing period that would not have shortened her rehabilitation. She was hospitalized for a month, braced for six weeks, used a wheelchair for over two months and continues to wear a knee brace, with physical therapy three to five times a week.
Injuries and treatment
- Humeral neck fracture
- Comminuted tibial plateau fracture
