Struck in a Queens crosswalk by a turning postal truck

Our client was crossing Guy Brewer Boulevard in Queens with the traffic signal in her favor and within the crosswalk when a postal truck making a right turn from Archer Avenue struck her. She was taken to hospital by ambulance.

X-rays showed no fracture. She followed up with her primary care physician, received two injections and continued physical therapy until her insurance ran out, and still has shoulder pain and limited range of motion. Imaging showed a bursal surface tear in the right shoulder, cervical herniations at C3-C4 and C5-C6 with thecal sac impingement, and mild anterior subluxation of L5 on S1 with marked loss of disc space height at L4-L5 and L5-S1.

Injuries and treatment

  • Bursal surface shoulder tear
  • Cervical disc herniations
  • Lumbar subluxation and disc space loss
  • Treatment cut short by insurance limits
